Steve serves as the Staff Development Manager aboard the Africa Mercy and is responsible for educating, equipping and empowering Mercy Ships’ staff in personal, interpersonal, and professional development.
He is responsible for designing and implementing training programs which will equip Mercy Ships staff to become more effective in the following areas:
- Spiritual formation
- Sharing the gospel cross-culturally
- Observing and interpreting cultures
- Understanding Worldview
- Incarnational living
- Conflict Resolution
- Language Learning
- Managerial training
- Indigenous leadership training
Lisa works as the Africa Mercy’s crew dental hygienist:
- Caring for the dental needs of Mercy Ships’ 450 international crew members
- Teaching dental health education
- Treating the dental health needs of local Africans

Lisa was affectionately known as “Mrs. Tooth” by many primary school students (2002)
Lisa taught her translator, Joseph, from Sierra Leone how to teach dental health. He did so for at least a year after the ship left Sierra Leone. Joseph has now gone on to attend dental school in Europe with hopes of returning to his country to serve the needs of his own people (2002).
